Atlas Collectible Firearms is profoundly honored to present a museum-tier investment artifact from the dawn of American lever-action history: an authentic, factory-engraved New Haven Arms Company No. 1 Volcanic lever-action pocket pistol. Manufactured circa 1859 during the historic transition following the reorganization of the Volcanic Repeating Arms Company by Oliver Winchester, this piece represents the direct technological precursor to the iconic Henry rifle and Winchester firearms empire. Chambered in .31 Caliber for self-contained caseless "rocket ball" ammunition, this pioneer repeating handgun features a 3.5-inch integral octagonal barrel over a 6-shot spring-loaded tubular magazine. The top barrel flat retains the crisp, single-line factory legend reading "NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT FEB. 14 1854". This example is 1 of only 850 short barrel pistol variants ever made! This Volcanic pistol boasts a brass frame adorned with factory scroll engraving set against stippled backgrounds, a pinched post front sight, a fixed notch rear sight, and a pair of smooth, genuine ivory grips. Stamped on the frame with serial number 1966, the underside of the magazine tube shows the assembly code 1261. As an antique manufactured prior to 1898, this historic New Haven Arms Volcanic ships directly to the winning bidder without FFL restrictions. The condition of this pre-Civil War firearm is excellent overall for a 165-year-old survivor, displaying an attractive, naturally aged patina across the brass frame and octagonal barrel assembly. The factory scroll engraving remains remarkably crisp and well-defined. The genuine ivory grips are in very fine shape, acquiring a warm, mellow tone while fitting tight to the frame. Mechanically, the action functions well, though the lever return spring exhibits expected age-related weakness. The .31 caliber rifled bore is bright with well-defined rifling throughout, showing only mild, scattered pitting typical for the era.
